Bitten: BITE Beauty’s The Lip Pencil

img_6756.jpg

I was so excited to be asked to be part of BITE Beauty’s campaign for their new lip pencil, The Lip Pencil! There are so many reasons this new liner will be a staple in my lip bag, so let’s jump right in!

The Pencil Itself

The first thing I noticed when unboxing is that these pencils are made from real wood- thank goodness! These pencils sharpen like a dream in any sharpener, unlike plastic pencils that get chewed up even when using the “correct” sharpener. This allows for a super precise tip, perfect for sculpting the perfect pout.

The pencil glides across the lips easily without leaving little chunks of liner along the way. It’s very soft and comfortable, and I was pleasantly surprised by the longevity of the wear as I don’t come across many creamy pencils that also don’t budge!

Let’s Talk Color!

I received 2 shades of the pencils along with their corresponding shades in BITE Beauty’s Amuse Bouche lipsticks.

The Nudes

I have officially found THE perfect nude lip combo! The Lip Pencil in 020 with Amuse Bouche Honeycomb. This shade isn’t too pink, isn’t too peach, and isn’t too brown. I’ve loved pairing this combo with both a smoky eye and with a soft eye.

The Berries

If I’m not wearing a nude lip, I’m probably wearing something in the berry family, so I was stoked to receive these as another option! The Lip Pencil in 044, along with the Amuse Bouche in Whiskey, is a gorgeous Bordeaux that isn’t too red, isn’t too plum, and isn’t too brown. While you can’t go wrong pairing this lip with a soft eye, I’ve loved living a little more dangerously by wearing it with a rich golden bronze eye look!
Final Thoughts

Wearability is the most important factor in determining whether or not a makeup product is worth the investment, and The Lip Pencil checked all of my “wearability boxes.” The application is a breeze, it’s comfortable, and it stands the test of time. AND, with all of the beautiful colors available, you truly can’t go wrong.

Disclosure: I did receive these products complimentary in exchange for my honest review.

Top 10 Beauty Must-Haves for Summer

Beat the heat with these hot tips!

The hot and humid summer months don’t mean you have to ditch your beauty routine – whether you’re protecting your skin while beaching it or glamming it up at a poolside party, use these tips to melt your worries, not your makeup.

1. SPF!

Whether you’re out and about in town or baking in the sun, protecting your skin is a must! For your body, you’ll want to opt for an SPF between 30-50. I recommend going with a water-resistant formula, such as Kiehl’s Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50.

When it comes to your face, you’ll want to use a separate product that won’t clog pores. My favorite is the tinted MAC Prep & Prime BB Beauty Balm SPF35 because it evens out my face and controls oil while protecting my skin.

Don’t forget about your lips! Sunburned lips are not comfortable, so opt for a balm with an SPF of at least 15 like Nars Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment.

2. Long Wearing Foundation

Thanks to advances in formulations, there are several foundations on the market now that are resistant to humidity and sweat while some are even waterproof. MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation is oil-free, blends naturally, and wears 24 hours!

3.
Bright Lip

Summer is the best season for a bold lip and naked-looking eyes! Whether you opt for a hot pink or a poppy coral, any fun shade complements sun-kissed skin. You’ll want to opt for a saturated formula that won’t smear or bleed in the heat like Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick.

4.
Waterproof Eyes

Whether you are looking for a little definition for your eyes or enhancing your lashes, you’ll need an eyeliner and mascara that don’t smudge or streak in the humidity. Bring out your eyes for summer with waterproof products like Too Faced Perfect Eyes Eyeliner and MAC False Lashes Waterproof Mascara.

5. Summer Nails

Needing the perfect pedi for the obligatory feet at the beach photo? Choose a polish that won’t crack under pressure! Sally Hansen Miracle Gel gives you salon quality manis and pedis in their 2-step no-light-needed gel polish that lasts at least a week! For realsies.

6. Face Refresher

Does your face need a pick-me-up during the midday heat? Using a face mist can refresh your look and add the look and feel of life back to your skin.  MAC Minerlize Charged Water Revitalizing Energy is an all natural hydrating spritz that revitalizes and energizes the skin. I keep mine in the fridge when I need a quick cooldown and freshening up!

7. Bronzer

Whether you’re a tanned goddess or a porcelain princess, adding subtle warmth to your skin with a bronzer is a healthy way to achieve a sunkissed look. Place it only where the sun hits you first: forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin for a natural, bronzed beauty.  Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer blends softly for warmth and dimension.

8. Luminous Highlight

A summer beauty look isn’t complete without radiant skin! Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder gives glowing skin without seeing flakes or specks and is available in 6 shades to suit any undertone. Look lit-from-within and never oily by placing this above your cheekbones, around your tearducts, and above your Cupid’s bow for flattering, subtle luminousity.

9. Body Bronzer

Protecting your porcelain perfection? Or tan but in need of some evening out? Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs is available in 5 shades that allow anything from enhancing subtle color to achieving bronze goddess status. With enough coverage to perfect your skin, this body makeupis also resistant to water and transferring.

10. Setting Spray

Last, and certainly not least, the final summer must-have is makeup setting spray. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a product that lowers the temperature of your makeup to keep it looking fresh all day? Oh, wait. There is! Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray locks in your hard work and prevents your face from melting in the sultry summer heat.
Let me know if your favorite products made the list!

What are some of your favorite summer products?

Until next time! xoxo

Ladies Who Brunch | Spring Makeup & Dresses

What’s a more fun way to spend a weekend morning in the spring than enjoying brunch with your favorite ladies? Indulgent food, sparkling beverages, and, of course, fabulous outfits and makeup make for a picture perfect spring brunch!

We at Lure & Ravish teamed with Holly from Dandy Boutique to style a decadent brunch fit for any Charleston weekend this spring!

Emmy’s bright blue eyes are captivating with a soft peachy yellow shadow paired with neutral tones on her lid. A soft peach blush brightened her cheeks, and a fun magenta lip pulled her spring makeup together. She’s wearing an adorable daisy dress that’s perfect for spring and summer!

Becca is featured here wearing a gorgeous tropical floral print tube dress. The bright coral flowers are perfect for spring or summer, and I styled her makeup to coordinate. Her monochromatic makeup starts with soft peach and cream shadows on the eyes. A peachy coral blush complemented her cheeks, and a bright poppy coral lip pulled this warm weather look together.

Venita’s vivacious look begins with elegant but neutral eyeshadows. Her delicate floral print dress feautres a bright blue background, so I kept the colors on her eyes soft to keep her look balanced. The dress also features small orange flowers, so I decided to coordinate her cheeks and lips to keep her makeup and outfit harmonious.

Holly’s vintage glam makeup is a perfect pair with her vintage rose print dress. I kept her eyes soft to allow her lip to pop for that classic starlet look. The subtle browns and peaches on her eyes and cheeks allow the rose tone on her lips to do all the talking!

Last but not least, here I am wearing my favorite dress of the season- a very fitting floral print dress with a black background. As a woman who’s personal makeup choices err on the side of adventurous, I chose plums for my spring makeup. For my eyes, I paired a cream color with a medium plum shadow to brighten my eyes. My cheeks feature a plum blush that gives me sheer color, while my statement plum lips coordinate but don’t compete with the rest of my look.

You can’t go wrong with a floral print dress this spring, and an easy and sophisticated way to wear it is with soft makeup with a bold lip color <3 xo

Valentine’s Makeup For Any Look

Hi Sweethearts!

Have the perfect Valentine’s dress, but not sure how to pull your look together? Take these 5 looks for your inspiration!

1) Soft PinkimageUse a neutral shadow as a base for your eyes and work a soft pink into your crease. Finish the eye with soft liner and your favorite lashes. Pair with a soft pink blush and lip for a soft and sweet look.

2) Rose GoldimagePop a rose gold shadow on your lid with a reddish brown shadow in your crease. Finish the eye with the rose gold shadow under your bottom lash line. Pair with a rosy cheek and lip to pull this romantic look together!

3) Red LipimageThis classic look is easy to pull together- start with skin tone shadows on the eye. Use a liquid or gel to wing your eyeliner- you can go as subtle or as dramatic as you like! Finish the eye with false lashes- my favorite for this look are longer in the outer corners. Use a soft blush for a subtle flush, and pull everything together with a classic, true red lipstick.

4) Pink SmokeimageThis look is all about monochromatic pink! Use a dark pink and a light pink on your eye (top and bottom) to create dimension, a black eyeliner for definition, and your favorite false lashes. Pink blush is a must, but go for a more neutral one so that everything is not loud. Finish with a baby pink lip for this ultra-glam Valentine’s look!

5) Sultry SmokeimageFor the eyes, start with a soft pink shadow in your crease and under your bottom lash line. Blend a charcoal or black shadow on the lid and finish with black eyeliner. A soft plum cheek finishes the face nicely, and a bright but soft pink lipstick pulls together this sultry, glamorous look.

Any of these are sure to wow your lover!

Comment which one you would rock for your Valentine’s date night! xoxo

Makeup for All Day (or All Night)! Beauty Blog

Hi Beauties!

I’ve created a list of recommended products and tips to help ensure you stay looking fresh all day (or all night)! I mean, who has time to worry about touching up their makeup? These products and tips keep me from saying “Yikes!” every time I walk past a mirror. You certainly don’t need to use every single product as each alone will significantly enhance the wear of your makeup, although using them in conjunction will most definitely deliver the best results!

The MOST IMPORTANT step to keeping your makeup fresh and looking its best is SKINCARE! Makeup looks and lasts the best on cleansed, exfoliated, and moisturized skin. Makeup will not stick to skin that is dirty, flaky, or oily, so make sure you address any of the skin issues you’re having. The most common mistake I run into with clients’ skincare routines is that women with oily skin tend not to use a moisturizer! Even those of us with oily skin MUST moisturize because skin needs moisture. If you don’t, once you strip the natural oil from your skin by cleansing it but not replenishing moisture, your skin recognizes the lack of moisture and goes into overdrive to produce oil to quench the need. Additionally, if you put a liquid foundation on unmoisturized skin, your skin will try to “drink” the moisture from the foundation, leaving the makeup looking flaky or “producty.” Using a moisturizer will make a big difference for your skin now and in the future! I have not listed the best skincare for makeup because every single one of us has different skin needs and concerns, so make sure you are investing in and using great skincare that suits your skin. If you’re not sure what is best for you, treat yourself to a facial from a professional that can make recommendations for you. Not only is it a luxurious experience, but it also gives you an opportunity to get a personalized routine from a professional.

Once your skin is clean and moisturized, the next step to lasting makeup is a primer! Primers are essential as it gives the makeup something to adhere to. The primer I have found that works best for all skin types is one I’ve been using on a majority of my clients for 6+ years. MAC Prep & Prime Skin.

photo 1

One pump of this bad boy is all you need for your entire face. While some artists use a brush to apply, I prefer my own CLEAN hands. I find that my body heat warms up the product, allowing it to melt right into my face. I have larger pores on my cheeks, so I lightly press upwards into them to help them disappear. This is a silica-based product, so it helps smooth out imperfections and control oil while leaving my face silky smooth.

Once my skin is prepped, the next step is foundation. The foundation I have found that does NOT BUDGE is MAC Prolongwear.

photo 2

This product claims (and lives up to) 15 hours of sweat-resistant, humidity-resistant, transfer-resistant wear. It’s medium to full in coverage, and although it’s a bit thicker of a formula, it’s easy to customize to your liking. This formula sets quickly, so make sure you work in small areas at a time to prevent it from setting before you’ve been able to blend it. For those who prefer a more natural look to their makeup, I recommend using a damp beauty blender to either apply or use after applying with a brush. This will help melt the product in while also absorbing excess to prevent a heavier look. A brush I would recommend would be the MAC 132. This duo-fibre panel brush is fantastic for evenly distributing a thin layer of product on the skin for thinner coverage, or it could be used to stipple on the foundation for fuller coverage. This one brush allows for versatility with it’s shape and density of fibres – perfect for those who like to change things up!

Once your foundation is on, the next step is certainly optional, but I have to say I have found it to enhance not only the wear of ANY foundation but also the look of it as well! MAC Prep & Prime Translucent Finishing Powder.photo 5

This colorless powder works phenomenally for setting foundation since it adds no coverage, therefore it won’t contribute to a cakey look. It’s finely milled so that is does not leave your face looking powdery. One of the main ingredients in silica, and I love this for a few reasons. Silica controls oil, so if the oil is controlled, it’s harder for it to disturb the wear of makeup. Also, silica diffuses the look of imperfections (like pores) so the skin has a more flawless, airbrushed look. Don’t need coverage but want your skin to look soft and smooth all day? Opt for just the primer and this powder, and you’re skin will look naturally flawless all day!

The final step to lasting makeup is a setting spray! My go-to is Urban Decay’s All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray.

photo-3

None of my brides or special event clients leave my chair without a few spritzes of this. This lightweight mist seals all of your hard work into place, allowing for a worry-free day (or night) of wear!

I’d love to hear what works for you, so feel free to comment your favorite secrets to makeup that lasts!

Best of Beauty 2014

Hi loves!

I can’t believe we are at the end of 2014, but I hope the year has been as good to you as it has to me! To wrap up the year, I have compiled a list of my favorite beauty products- the must-haves that I found myself reaching for all year!

Disclaimer: These are products that I have found work best for my needs and preferences, but we are all different! I’ll do my best to concisely explain why it works well for me and for whom it will also work well!  :-)

Best Foundation Primer:

photo 3

Benefit the POREfessional – Sometimes my skin is oily, and sometimes it is dehydrated, but no matter what, I have larger pores. This primer not only smooths them out, but it also leaves my skin silky smooth, perfectly primed for makeup. This formula also gives a nice lightweight base for allowing any foundation to adhere to it for enhanced wear (even though some days I wear this alone for flawless, natural skin!)

Best Natural-Looking Foundation:

photo 1

MAC Studio Sculpt – This highly concentrated, hydrating foundation is my favorite for a more natural looking face. Only the size of a chocolate chip is needed for a whole face, so I work a very small amount of product into my skin for flawless, natural coverage. It is buildable, so on days I need a little extra help, I work a little more onto just the areas I need it. Use a fluffier brush for a more skin-like look, or use a more dense or flat brush for a little extra coverage. On days that I’m oilier, I make sure I set it with a translucent powder (my fave is MAC Prep & Prime Translucent Powder, and with this, just like the foundation, less is more!)

Best Full Coverage Foundation:

photo 2

Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation – This foundation is great when for when I am going out or going to be in a lot of photos. It provides fuller coverage without looking heavy, but I have to make sure I only use a small amount!

Best Foundation Brush for a Natural Look:

photo 4 photo 5

MAC 159 Brush – This fluffy duo-fibre brush is fantastic for buffing foundations into the skin for a natural look. The longer, white bristles are perfectly spaced apart to ensure the most natural makeup application!

Best Foundation Brush for More Coverage:

photo 1 photo 2

Sigma F80 – This large, super dense brush is a must for anyone’s more-than-natural coverage needs! The bristles are super soft, but because the brush is jam packed, they firmly work product into the skin. I work in small, circular motions to buff makeup into my skin for a flawless, airbrushed look.

Best Brush-Free Makeup Applicators (EVER):

photo-2

MAC Pro Performance Sponges (or Beauty Blenders) – These dense sponges provide the most skin-like makeup application possible. They are not as porous as the typical makeup sponge, which means they don’t absorb and waste product! Dampen them and squeeze out any excess water before using, then use them to lightly “pounce” the makeup into your skin. I love using these with everything from my foundations to my concealers to my creamy contour products. There is NOTHING like the way these products melt makeup into your skin!

Best Concealer:

photo 3

L.A. Girl Pro HD Concealer – This super-concentrated, long-wearing concealer is one of my favorite finds of the year! The formula is completely comparable to MAC Prolongwear Concealer, but for a fraction of the price. I never sacrifice performance for price, and these are the best of both worlds! My favorite way to use these is to swipe some on (less than you think you’d need) and work in with a damp beauty blender. Using this method allows me to maintain coverage without it looking heavy. When I use it under my eyes, I make sure to dab just a little translucent powder to prevent it from creasing.

Best Top Lash Mascara:

photo 5

Benefit they’re real – Yes, I do use separate mascaras for my top and bottom lashes. Do I expect everyone to? No. Do I know a lot of other artists and enthusiasts that do? Yes, so I wanted to break mascara down into two categories for those as choosy as me! Benefit’s they’re real delivers the perfect amount of product to volumize my lashes without applying too much so that they’re not clumping together. My lashes look super long and super separated without looking “product-y”!

Best Bottom Lash Mascara:

photo 1

MAC Extended Play Lash – This mascara is my holy grail for bottom lashes. The brush on this mascara is super small so I don’t end up getting mascara on my skin. It also makes my bottom lashes super long and separated- it almost looks like I’m wearing false bottom lashes! It’s flake-free so I also don’t have those little black dots under my eyes halfway through the day!

Best Eyeliner:

photo 2

NYX Studio Liquid Liner – Once a gel liner loyalist, I’ve recently converted to liquid. I’ve tried a few, and this is my favorite one so far for few reasons. I love the applicator- its very slim so that I can get a thin line when I want one. The wear is incredibly long- I don’t know if it claims to be waterproof, but from personal experience I can say that it is for me! Also, on the nights that I don’t wash my face (big no-no, don’t tell anyone!) my liner is still on perfectly when I wake up.

Best All-Around Shadow Palette:

photo 3

Morphe 35W – This palette has it all! The super wide range of colors are gorgeous, and there is a variety of finishes from matte to satin to shimmery- it has everything you could need for almost any look. The shadows are super pigmented and super blendable, even the matte shades blend like butter! Oh, and have I mentioned that all 35 of shadows are only $20??

Best Brow Product:

photo 4

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo (pictured is my pro palette) – If I had to choose only ONE product to put in my brows (because sometimes I use 3 or 4 at a time!), it would most definitely be this powder. Pigmented and long wearing, these duos allow for the most natural brow all the way to the most dramatic, defined brow. I use a thin, angled brush- my fave is a MAC 263!

Best Everyday Blush:

photo 5

MAC Mocha Blush – This powder blush has a pink undertone but is still neutral enough to be versatile! It’s not too light and it’s not too intense, so if I’m in a hurry and just need to grab something for some color, this is my go-to!

Best Bronzer:

photo 1

NARS Laguna – I love this bronzer because it is a golden-bronze without the orange. It’s pigmented enough so that I don’t have to apply several layers but still soft enough to not look harsh. It’s on the deeper side, so if you’re lighter than an NC30, it may not be the best for you. If you have a little color like I do, then chances are you’ll love this as much as I do! My favorite way to wear this is wear the sun would hit me first- lightly on my forehead, nose, and a little under my cheekbones with a MAC 150 brush (softer application) or a MAC 168 brush (deeper application).

Best Everyday Lip Combo:

photo 2photo 3

MAC Whirl Lip Pencil & MAC Honeylove Lipstick – These neutral shades have a slight pink undertone but still look natural. I call this my “lip color but better” combo. It gives me just enough color to not look washed out, but it does not call attention to the lips since they don’t look “done.” This lip combo is my favorite way to pull together a soft, everyday look.

Best Bold Lip Combo:

photo 4 photo 5

MAC High Energy Prolongwear Lip Pencil, MAC Lady at Play Mineralize Lipstick, and L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Tango – I found myself wearing this bright coral lip combo anytime I wanted to wear a statement lip. This tone didn’t feel played out, and I got compliments every time I wore it. I always paired it with a soft, neutral eye, sometimes with winged liner and lashes.

Best Lashes:

photo 1

Velour Lashes – These mink lashes are everything. The quality is phenomenal- when taken care of properly, these lashes may be worn up to 35 times! For a more natural lash look, I opt for “Are Those Real?” When I want a little extra drama, I love “You Complete Me.” Wink, wink 😉

Best Fragrance:

photo

Dolce & Gabbana Rose The One – This limited edition, rose-scented version of The One has been my obsession. I adore anything with a rose scent, but this one is my favorite because it’s not an “old lady” floral (sorry!). It’s fresh and lightweight while sultry at the same time. The first time I wore it, my fiancé asked as we were walking out of the house if the flowers were blooming- no joke! I also use the matching shower gel and body lotion because I just. can’t. get. enough.

That rounds out my favorites for the year!
